🧭 Short story

The Red Tower - or Kızıl Kule in Turkish - is the most famous landmark in Alanya.
It was built to protect the harbor and shipyard (Tersane) from pirates and enemy attacks.
The name comes from the red bricks used in the upper part of the construction, which give the tower its characteristic color.

🧱 Architecture and details

The tower is 33 meters high, octagonal and consists of five floors.
The walls are up to 2.5 meters thick at the bottom - made to withstand both catapults and cannonballs.
Inside you can see narrow windows for archers, stairs that wind upwards, and an open top terrace with stunning views of the entire Alanya.

🏛 Inside the tower

Today, the Red Tower serves as an ethnographic museum, where you can see exhibitions of weapons, clothing, and historical artifacts from the Seljuk era.
In the middle of the building, there is an open space where the sound is impressive - perfect for acoustic demonstrations 🎵

🌅 The experience

From the top, you get a 360° view of the harbor, the castle and the Mediterranean.
From here you can clearly see how Alanya was built as a protected city - with the tower, the wall and the shipyard in one line.
In the sunset, the bricks glow in red and orange - a sight you won't forget.

💡 Tips before your visit

  • Combine your trip with a visit to the shipyard (Tersane ) and the Pirate's Cave (Tophane) - both are close by.
  • Wear good shoes - the stairs are steep and uneven.
  • Avoid the middle of the day in July/August - the bricks retain heat!
  • Bring your camera 📸 - the view is perfect both morning and evening.
